The special thing about this Jack Daniel's Single Barrel is that, unlike the other bottlings, the Barrel Strength was filled directly from the barrel into the bottle - at cask strength, of course. This brings out the flavours of the handmade and toasted barrels even more intensely. Each bottling of the Master Distiller has its own uniqueness.

De Distilleerderij: Jack Daniel's
It’s one of the best known and bestselling Whiskeys of the world: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. Home of Jack Daniel’s is Lynchburg, a town about 70 miles south of Nashville. It’s a Whiskey that is produced obeying all the regulations necessary to be called Bourbon - but it’s even more: 1944 Jack Daniel’s achieved the official approval that Tennessee Whiskey is an own classification, characterised by the additional charcoal mellowing called “Lincoln County process”.

Comment: It’s a high-proof, full-flavoured Jack that leans sweet & spicy with impressive depth for its NAS label — great value if you don’t mind a strong heat front.

Finish:
On the nose, neat: White oak and vanilla, typical bourbon nose but with a bit extra, some polish notes and cotton candy (candy floss for us New Zealanders) and a bit of an alcohol bite. With time some nice nutmeg and cinnamon notes come out.
With water: Things start to open up and become a bit more spread out, more of the same but more easily discernable.
On the palate, neat: Surprisingly an astringent dry note first followed by sweetness with spices and, unsurprisingly at 62.5% an alcohol burn.
With water: The sweetness comes first now, then the dryness coupled with the oak (which makes more sense), still lots of rich flavours, not weakened by dilution.
Finish has a good amount of vanilla and lingering oak wood, not the longest though.
Overall not the most impressive bourbon-style whisky I've had but definitely a decent, good quality drop.
