Bushmills is expanding its World Wood Series with an 18-year-old single malt, which complements the previous series of twelve, fifteen and twenty-one-year-old bottlings. The Irish whiskey initially matured for at least 17 years in bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts before receiving its final maturation in rare Colheita port casks. Colheita refers to a single vintage port that is made exclusively from grapes from a single harvest year and undergoes a minimum ageing period of seven years. Unlike regular Tawny Port, the grapes are not blended, meaning that the flavour expression can vary depending on the vintage. The combination of the three types of cask gives Bushmills whiskey a special aromatic depth and complexity. The long maturation in bourbon casks leads to soft vanilla and almond notes, while the Oloroso sherry butts expand the profile with pronounced dried fruit flavours and subtle spice tones. The final maturation in the rare Colheita port wine barrels produces fresh and intense fruit flavours that combine with a silky sweetness and are reminiscent of crème brûlée.

The Distillery: Bushmills
The Old Bushmills Distillery is probably the oldest licensed Whiskey distillery in the world - its licence dates back to 1608. It was officially founded in 1784 by Hugh Anderson in the Northern Irish town of Bushmills. Since then, Bushmills has been synonymous with traditionally triple-distilled, mild Irish Whiskey. Today, the distillery is one of Ireland's best-known names and combines centuries-old craftsmanship with an unmistakable flavour.

Andreason 17.01.2026Aroma: Ein herrlich intensiver, fruchtiger Auftakt. Rote Trauben, Feigen, Pflaumen – der Duft tendiert eher zu Trockenfrüchten. Dazu gesellt sich ein subtiler Hauch von Roséwein. Malz, Toffee und Mandelöl versprechen Süße. Holzige Noten kommen zum Vorschein, mal mehr, mal weniger. Leicht säuerliche Früchte schwingen im Hintergrund mit – ein Hauch von Johannisbeeren und Stachelbeeren.
Geschmack: Am Gaumen erweist sich der Alkoholgehalt von 46 % als ideal. Das Aromenspektrum ist fantastisch. Neben Trockenfrüchten wie Pflaumen, Datteln und Rosinen finden sich Noten von getrockneten Bananenchips. Diese werden von Gewürzen, Nüssen und Himbeersirup ergänzt. All dies wechselt sich wunderbar mit exotischen Früchten wie Pfirsich, Mango und Honigmelone ab.
Wunderbar harmonisch und köstlich.
Abgang: Mittellanger Abgang, vorwiegend exotische Früchte, Gewürze, eine subtile Bitterkeit, Holzgewürze und ein großartiger, runder Nachklang.
