Product description
The new Ardnamurchan distillery has been producing Single Malt again since 2014. The first release with an age statement of 10 years consists of an unpeated distillate and is matured entirely in bourbon casks. This was followed by a 13 to 14-month finish in Champagne Paul Launois barriques. Ardnamurchan also relies on renewable resources. Less than two miles from the distillery, electricity is generated from a river, which is also used for the cooling water, and the wood chips for the biomass boiler also come from the surrounding, sustainably planted forests. The bottles are also made from 54% recycled glass before they are filled with the whisky, which is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Aroma: The nose is vibrant and coastal, with briny sea air, citrus zest, and green apples leading the way. Underneath are layers of vanilla cream, honeyed malt, and a wisp of peat smoke, creating a beautifully balanced profile.
Taste: The palate is rich and textured, offering notes of salted caramel, orchard fruits, and lemon curd, alongside a gentle smokiness. Subtle hints of toasted nuts, black pepper, and heather honey add complexity, while a touch of maritime salinity ties it all together.
Finish: Medium to long, with lingering waves of gentle peat, sweet malt, and a refreshing mineral quality, fading into a soft, smoky warmth.
Comment: A superbly balanced and complex dram that captures Ardnamurchan’s unique terroir. The 10-year milestone showcases their mastery of integrating coastal influences with a nuanced malt character.
