Product description
This is the strong Three Wood Whisky from Auchentoshan. After about 10 years of maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the whisky is matured for 2 years in an oloroso sherry cask before being matured for a further 6 months in a sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry cask.

Kommentar: Wer es gern etwas süßer mag, ist bei diesem Whiskey gut aufgehoben. Für mich kein Whiskey, den man jeden Tag trinken kann. Die Süße sticht für mich zu sehr hervor. Doch das soll ihn nicht schlecht machen. Vielleicht stehe ich damit alleine, doch dadurch werden für mich andere Aromen zu sehr überdeckt. Sherry, Sherry, mit ein bißchen Eiche, was etwas ölig im Mund beim Abgang bei mir keine Geschmacksexplosion auslöst. Sehr guter Einsteigerwhiskey

Kommentar: Den muss man mögen. Die enttäuschten Kommentare, die es zu ihm auch gibt, kann ich verstehen. Vielleicht ist die Ursache für die Kritik an ihm der Ausbau im PX cask, PX ist tatsächlich schwer und ziemlich klebrig süß. Aber wenn man das mag (so wie ich), ist er gerade zum Winter hin sehr genießbar.

Kommentar: Ich bewerte ungern die Arbeit von 12 oder mehr Jahren derart negativ. Hier beim Three Wood ist dies jedoch umfassend angebracht. Leider habe ich mich vom Angebotspreis und dem letzten Verkostungsvideo von Herrn Lüning sr. blenden lassen.
Das Aroma ist eine Katastrophe. Überfrachtet von sherrygetränkter, muffiger Eiche stechen mir wässriger, billiger Rotwein (Lambrusco), nasses Holz und penetrante Nelke und Süße (Süßstoff) in die Nase. Nach 30, eher 60 Minuten im Glas mildert sich dies etwas ab.
Im Mund erwartet einen das gleiche Desaster. Schaler Rotwein, muffige Eiche, künstliche Süße, Nelken (Rotkohlaromatik).
Erwähnenswert ist lediglich der Abgang. Hierbei erweisen sich abstrakterweise die vorher penetranten Aromen als langanhaltender, glühweinartiger Genuss. Die Geschmacksnoten bieten im ganzen Spektrum einen milden, angenehmen Ausklang.
