Product description
Bruichladdich launched 'The Organic' project back in 2003 and since then the distillery has continued to release whiskies that are as natural as possible. The Bruichladdich Organic Barley 2012 is a Single Malt Whisky from Scotland that places particular emphasis on origin and sustainability. The barley used comes from Mid Coul Farm near Inverness in the north of the country - a farm that has been growing organic barley for Bruichladdich since 2003. Around 1,100 hectares are cultivated here without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides, in a closed nutrient cycle in which almost all residues are recycled - including for energy production via a biogas plant or as animal feed (spent grains). The barley for this whisky was harvested in 2011 and then distilled in 2012. Without any artificial additives, this Bruichladdich is an expression of the respective terroir. Maturation took place exclusively on the Hebridean island of Islay in carefully selected casks, allowing the whisky to develop in a calm, balanced way. In the glass, the Organic Barley 2012 has a clear, accessible profile characterised by creamy fudge, honey-soaked citrus fruit and a fine spiciness.
