The Elements of Islay Fireside is a blended malt from two distilleries on the north coast of Islay. Both mature their heavily smoky single malts in burnt-out hogsheads, Oloroso sherry hogsheads made from American oak and Oloroso sherry butts made from European oak. The strong profile of fireside smoke with rich red fruits and candied oranges evokes associations with a cosy fireside evening in cheerful company. The independent bottler Elixir Distillers had the whiskies for the blend selected by master blender Oliver Chilton from active and inactive Islay distilleries, which is intended to capture the liquid spectrum of the Isle of Islay in the bottle - and it has succeeded!

Aroma: Kaminfeuerrauch mit satten roten Früchten und kandierten Orangen.
Taste: A rich and smoky profile with layers of sweet peat, smoldering embers, and seaweed. Notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and salted caramel develop, alongside a peppery spice and a touch of medicinal iodine. There’s a nice warmth throughout, with hints of baked pears and cinnamon adding complexity.
Finish: Long and satisfying, the smoke persists with a gentle sweetness of charred oak and subtle vanilla. A lingering warmth of spices and briny notes leaves a comforting, fireside glow.
Comment: This is a bold and cozy dram that embodies the warmth of an Islay peat fire. Balanced with sweetness and spice, it’s the perfect whisky for a chilly evening.
