Variety Single Malt Whisky
Aroma Lush notes of fruit cake and baked sultanas, strong nuances of the cask strength make themselves felt. Then hints of sweet berries, speculoos and light caramel cream. Moderate oak, salt, pecan and mocha follow towards the end.
Taste Strong and velvety with sultana biscuits, sweet grapes and candied fruits. Oak aromas, light chocolate and incisive spice, then becoming sweeter with accents of vanilla and caramel.
Finish Medium length with persistent creamy and fruity facets.
Maturation Sherry, Port, Marsala, Màlaga and Grand Cru Claret Hogsheads

Product description
The third batch of the 2023 Edition of Elsburn Wayfare benefits from the cask diversity of the German distillery, which is based in the Harz Mountains and can draw on 16 different types of casks, most of which were pre-aged liqueur and sweet wine. The Single Malt is made from regional barley malt, fresh mountain spring water from the village of Zorge in the Harz mountains, as well as pure cultured yeast, and is distilled 2 times on Pot Stills. It is matured for 4-11 years, half in sherry hogsheads and half in Port, Marsala, Màlaga and Grand Cru Claret hogsheads. Due to increasing demand, the Harzer distillery had to take the popular malt out of the standard range some time ago and now bottles it in annual batches at cask strength.

Aroma: sehr viel auf einmal, schwer zu greifen, Fruchtig, würzig, schokoladig

Geschmack: sehr schön, Schoko und Früchte im Vordergrund, leichte Würze aber eher so weihnachtlich

Kommentar: Samtig? Cremig? Rosinen? karamellige Süße? Ich merke/schmecke nichts von alledem. Nach der ganzen Schärfe kommen verschiedene Kräuter und Anis zum Vorschein.
Ich werde den Eindruck nicht los, daß zu viele Fässer im Spiel waren.
Nicht falsch verstehen: der Whisky ist gut. Ich kann nur den Hype nicht nachvollziehen. Als Destillery - Einstand hätte ich mir vielleicht einen Anderen aussuchen sollen.
