Fettercairn is a historic Highland Single Malt distillery, founded in 1824, which is renowned for its innovative approach to whisky-making and its commitment to its Scottish heritage. The Fettercairn range comprises whiskies of various ages and embodies the distillery’s distinctive style. The Fettercairn Scottish Oak 18 Years Old is a limited-edition Single Malt Whisky and showcases the first results of the Scottish Oak Project, which has been in development for over ten years. After maturing in a selection of first-fill and refill ex-bourbon casks made from American white oak, this whisky was finished in 100 per cent Scottish oak casks, crafted from sustainably sourced timber from three Scottish forests. This bottling expands the matured Fettercairn whisky range and sits between the 12-year-old and the 22-year-old Fettercairn. Bottled at 46.8% ABV, it combines the traditional craftsmanship of the Highland distillery with the distinctive influence of Scottish oak.

The Distillery: Fettercairn
Fettercairn bedeutet auf Gälisch 'am Fuß des Berges'. 1824 wurde die Fettercairn Destillerie von Sir Alexander Ramsay gegründet. Über 60 Jahre später zerstörte ein Brand die Brennerei fast vollständig. Mühsam wurde alles wieder aufgebaut und nach knapp drei Jahren konnte wieder produziert werden.

Herstellerbeschreibungon 16.10.2023Aroma: Noten von gebrannten Mandeln, Backgewürzen, Passionsfrucht und Tropenfrüchte wie Guave treffen aufeinander.
Geschmack: Exotischer Fruchtsirup, Pâtisserie Zucker, Brioche und Gewürze mit sanften Spuren von Beeren.
Abgang: Weich und würzig mit Kakaonoten und natürlicher Vanille.
Geschmack: Reichhaltig, voll und würzig: Deutlicher Einschlag (wieder) nach exotischen Früchten (Ananas, Kumquats, Kokosnuss etc.) Himbeer-Erdbeer-Sirup und Vanillekuchen.
Abgang: Lang. Viel Frucht, (Sherry-Nussigkeit?!), leichte Ansätze von Kakao und Espressonoten. Am Ende eine Flut aus Vanille.
Kommentar: Ein teurer Spaß! Aber sehr gut im Geschmack und Qualität! Die schottische Eiche zeigt ihre beste Seite. Für meinen Geschmack wurde sie gänzlich oder zum Teil mit Sherry (mein Tipp: Palo Cortado) veredelt. Überragender 18-Jähriger von Fettercairn! Es gibt deutlich schlechtere oder nicht so eindrucksvolle 18-jährige Malts (Stichwort Knockando)!
