Flor de Caña Rum comes from Nicaragua and is the only rum brand in the world that can call itself 'slow aged'. With this certification, the US government agency ensures that it is a natural and not accelerated maturation process in oak barrels. The rum is produced directly at the San Antonio sugar factory at the foot of an active volcano, which belongs to the "Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua" founded in 1890. The Flor de Caña 18 Centenario Rum matured for 18 years in selected oak barrels. The rum is balanced and strong with notes of nuts and caramel, which combine with fruity accents of vanilla and spice.

The Italian Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa founded the Flor de Caña Rum distillery in 1890 at the foot of the San Cristobál volcano in Nicaragua. The distillery is still family-owned and is now run by the fifth generation.

Aroma: Vanille, Haselnüsse und ein paar Walnüsse, dazu die typischen Aromen von heißen Zuckerrohrsaft. Für einen Rum eher weniger intensiv, aber ausgesprochen angenehm
Geschmack: Flüchtige Süße von der Vanille, danach Weihnachtgewürze und dezente Eiche
Abgang: Nicht allzu lang, Eiche, Muskat und Zimt bleiben am längsten, eher trocken werdend. Gar nicht bitter.
Kommentar: Ein ehrlicher, handwerklich gut gemachter Rum, der sich wohltuend vom heute leider üblichen Zuckerwasser der Mainstream- Rums abhebt. Man merkt die lange Lagerzeit, ohne dass er von der Eiche erschlagen wird.
Allemal eine Sünde wert.

Sehr wässriges Mundgefühl. Leichte, angenehme aber ebenfalls recht dünne Süße. Die tropischen Früchte sind im Anklang da. Dann dominiert eine leicht unangenehme Bitterkeit auf der Zunge, die sich auch lange hält.
Etwas enttäuschend. Hätte vielleicht lieber den 12er nehmen sollen. Preislich aber noch ok.
