Havana Club Cuban Smokey Rum was partially matured in former whisky casks from the Scottish island of Islay. The use of these barrels also gives the Cuban rum a pleasant smoky note with sweet and dark aromas. The whiskies that were stored in the casks from the Isle of Islay are especially known for their smoky and maritime character. Since December 2022, Cuba's Maestros del Ron Cubano have been officially recognised by UNESCO as an intangible World Heritage Site.
