The Kentucky Straight Bourbon Larceny was named after an old family legend that revolves around John E. Fitzgerald. According to this tale, Fitzgerald was actually a state revenue officer. At that time, only state employees were allowed to have keys to the whisky warehouses. Fitzgerald, a bourbon drinker, used this opportunity to access the best barrels in the warehouse.

Instead of the traditional rye, wheat was added to the Larceny.

The Distillery: Heaven Hill

Die Heaven Hill Destillerie in Kentucky, besitzt eine große Besonderheit: Sie ist die größte unabhängige, familiengeführte Destillerie im ganzen Land. Dabei sind zwei Namen mit Heaven Hill verbunden: Shapira und Beam. Shapira ist der Name der Besitzer - und alle Master Destiller waren Mitglieder der Beam-Familie. Analysten behaupten außerdem, dass Heaven Hill 2015 der siebtgrößte Whisky Anbieter der USA war. In der Brennerei wird jedoch nicht nur Whiskey produziert. Auch wenn sie als Bourbon-Hersteller gegründet wurde, wurde das Sortiment in den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten enorm erweitert (Malt Whiskey, Gin, Wodka, Likör, Rum). Kommentar: Im Aroma eine Bombe, sonst weich, süß, leichte Eiche hat man immer aber angenehm. Einer meiner für mich besten Bourbons.

Kommentar: Ein schön süßer, solider Bourbon, in welchem der Alkohol etwas milder hätte eingebunden werden können. Geschmacklich jedoch gut wer es süß mag. PLV aber nur 3 Sterne

Abgang: Mittellang mit Vanille und Eiche

Kommentar: Wer einen Süßen Whisky ohne scharfen Antritt und starken Kanten sucht, ist hier goldrichtig. Perfekt für Einsteiger wie ich finde. Notiz an mich: Weizen macht Whisky „runder“. Wieder was dazu gelernt!
