	Variety	Single Malt Whisky
	Aroma	Smoky maritime style meets damp bonfire, seaweed and iodine. In addition, some vanilla, light-coloured fruit and a hint of sultanas from the Oloroso refill, altogether rather light and fresh.
	Taste	Direct and smoky, ashy and slightly peppery. Vanilla, some caramel and subtle sherry notes in the background, plus citrus and a salty, slightly oily note.
	Finish	Medium length, dry and smoky. Ash, salt and citrus remain, plus some oak and pepper, the sweetness subsides quickly and pleasantly.

This Ledaig (pronounced Letch-ick) from the Tobermory distillery is number 76 of the popular 100 Proof Edition from Signatory Vintage, in which cask strength whiskies with an alcohol strength of at least 57.1% vol. are bottled at extremely fair prices. Signatory is one of Scotland's most renowned independent bottlers, founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington. With over 10,000 casks in its Pitlochry warehouses, Symington has access to some of the rarest and oldest whiskies in existence. Converted, 100 proof equates to 57.1% vol. The proof system was introduced in Britain to determine whether a spirit was high enough in proof to be taxed and to ensure that gunpowder on ships could still be ignited in rough seas. A mixture of spirits and gunpowder had to be able to be ignited. Today, this measure is rarely used but has been revived by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage for the 100 Proof Edition. The Ledaig spent 6 years in a combination of refill Oloroso sherry hogsheads and refill Bourbon barrels, allowing unadulterated whisky quality with delicate smoke to meet pure, balanced fruit and vanilla flavours.
