Product description
Number 34 from the Mortlach distillery is part of the 100 proof series from the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. In this series, high-proof, uncoloured whiskies with at least 57.1% vol. are bottled, which corresponds to 100 proof. The term proof is an old unit of measurement for the alcohol content of a drink, particularly whisky, which indicates the minimum alcohol content above which gunpowder soaked in the liquid can be ignited. This method was used in the heyday of seafaring so that the casks in the belly of the ship could withstand the harsh weather conditions at sea. The Single Malt has been matured for 11 years in first and second fill oloroso sherry butts, giving it a fruity complexity with a pleasant mildness.

Kommentar: Recht scharf, Wasser zwingend nötig. Danach sehr vollmundig, aber wenig vom erwarteten Mortlach-Umami. Nicht so fleischig wie erwartet. Guter Preis natürlich, werde ihn aber denoch erstmal nicht nachkaufen.

Kommentar: Sehr interessanter Whisky. Mit etwas Wasser und 15 min wird er nochmal besser. Bringt eine schöne Fruchtigkeit eine Note Menthol raus, das untermalt von den Sherry Fässern. Nichts für das Verlangen nach einem "smoothen" Gläschen, aber er schmeckt und bietet ein sehr gutes PLV.

Kommentar: die alkoholspitze mit etwas Wasser abgemildert bringt gleichzeitig mehr fruchtigkeit hervor. Generell lohnt es sich immer bei so hoher alkoholkonzentration mit etwas wasser zu experimentieren.
