Smögen is a Swedish micro-distillery renowned for its powerful, characterful drams, which delight lovers of peated whiskies. Located on Sweden’s west coast, Smögen combines traditional production methods with a clear focus on Taste and authenticity. The whiskies often feature smoky, maritime notes balanced by malty sweetness. The 10-year-old Smögen Oloroso Sherry Hogsheads Peated is an intense sherry bomb, matured in four Oloroso hogsheads. It presents a nuanced, malty aroma with pronounced smoke, as well as classic notes of dried fruit, walnuts, tobacco, dark chocolate, orange peel, cinnamon, tar and liquorice. Smögen’s innovative approach is also evident in the Askeim range, launched in 2024, which focuses on reviving classic barley varieties without peat smoke. This 10-year-old bottling, however, remains true to Smögen’s characteristic peated style and impresses with its complexity and balance in every sip.

Die schwedische Brennerei Smögen ist nach einem Bilderbuch Fischerdorf am Skagerrak, dem Teil der Nordsee zwischen Dänemark, Schweden und Norwegen benannt. Gegründet wurde die Brennerei von dem Rechtsanwalt Pär Caldenby, der zugleich Whiskyenthusiast und -autor ist. In der kleinen Brennerei stellt er mit seinem Team stark rauchige Single Malt Whiskys aus Bourbon- und Sherryfässern her.

Kommentar: Sherry kommt extrem durch, leider nicht der Oloroso Sherry (ungestüm sauer mit leichten Schokoladennoten würde ich vermuten) den ich im Whiskyglas mag. Denke es kommt hier eher von der Vorbelegung und weniger durch die Kombination mit dem Destillat. Dennoch eine gute Abfüllung.
