The Störtebeker Single Malt Klassik is distilled from the finest brewing and speciality malts on the island of Rügen. Aged for 2 years in French oak barrels, the German whisky becomes a flavour experience with notes of vanilla, coconut and oak despite its young age. Störtebeker's classic was also refined for a year in a Coopers Reserve cask. The staves of this special type of barrel were made from American oak and fitted with a base and lid made from French oak. Slow roasting over an oak fire added a delicate layer of charcoal to the inside of the cask. This gave the Single Malt complexity, delicate honey tones and a pleasant mildness during the finish.
The Störtebeker distillery is a craft-orientated whisky distillery located in the South-East Rügen biosphere reserve. Whiskies have been produced in a former hotel dating back to 1908 since the mid-2000s. The first of these was distilled in 2009. The location on the popular island of Rügen quickly made the whisky famous and Störtebeker has been a partner since 2020, investing in the site and trialling new whisky creations. Innovation and craftsmanship are just as important to the distillery as research and development, which is where the partnerships with the ZELT Institute and Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences in the field of food technology come from.

Kommentar: Die machen ein paar gute Biere, aber beim Whisky ... da ist noch viel Luft nach oben. Dennoch besser als ich erwartet hatte.
