Wild Turkey whiskey matures for 5 to 8 years in heavily charred oak barrels. The heavily charred oak barrels were burnt out to degree 4, the so-called 'alligator char'. The name comes from the strength of the degree of charring, which chars the inside of the barrel so that it resembles the armoured skin of an alligator. The Bourbon is then bottled at a pleasant drinking strength. The whiskey used to be called '81' (proof) after its alcohol content.

La distillerie: Wild Turkey
Situated in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the Wild Turkey Distillery is an exceptional example for a Whiskey distillery that follows its own vision of how Bourbon has to be: characterful, very aromatic and last but not least full of power!
It hasn’t been very long that the distillery is called like the famous American bird. Before known as Ripy Distillery, it is now named after the brand that Austin, Nichols & Co developed. In 1940s Manager Thomas McCarthy, Manager of Austin Nichols, carried samples of his new Bourbon with him when he went to hunt wild turkeys with his friends. Soon they started to call it the “Wild Turkey” Whiskey and McCarthy decided to use this nick to be the brand name for his Bourbon Whiskey.

Lekkere fles voor weinig
Geschmack: Schwer, süß und Ölig voller Vanille, Karamell und braunem Zucker. Im Hintergrund feine Noten von Birne und Pfefferminze, dazu Eichenholzwürze.
Abgang: Lang und Süß mit Vanillekaramell und Birne, gefolgt von Pfeffer.
Kommentar: Der steht bei mir immer im Haus als Bourbon der Wahl. Meiner Meinung nach auch deutlich besser als der Wild Turkey 101. Aber eigentlich liebe ich einfach nur den Truthahn auf dem Etikett.
