This 17-year-old Blair Athol Single Malt belongs to the 100 Proof Edition and was bottled as an Exceptional Cask with the number 12. The 100 Proof Edition from Signatory Vintage combines high alcohol strengths with an attractive price-performance ratio. With the additional "Exceptional Casks" label, the independent bottler presents long-matured whiskies that are characterised by their quality and are aimed particularly at discerning connoisseurs at fair prices. The Blair Athol matured in first fill Oloroso sherry butts and was bottled at 57.1% vol. without the addition of colour and without chill-filtering, which corresponds to exactly 100 proof. The term proof is an ancient unit of measurement for the alcohol content of a drink, especially whisky, which indicates the minimum alcohol content above which gunpowder soaked in the liquid can be ignited. This method was used in the heyday of seafaring so that the casks in the belly of the ship could withstand the harsh weather conditions at sea. The Single Malt is strong with sherry notes and a spicy, nutty profile.

Die Blair Athol Brennerei liegt in der Ortschaft Pitlochry an der Straße von Perth nach Inverness. Gegründet wurde sie bereits 1798 von John Stewart und Robert Robertson unter dem Namen "Aldour". Heute gehört sie zu Diageo.
