Sir Edmond - Bourbon Vanilla Infused Gin

The history of this Gin goes back to 1819. French businessmen brought vanilla to Reunion Island at that time. Edmond Albius, an island inhabitant born as a slave, discovered about four decades after the visit of the French businessmen and at the age of just 12 that vanilla is not only usable as a spice. So he developed the first method of manual pollination, some of which is still used today. The Gin pays homage to the discoverer who left the island as a free man after the end of slavery. The Sir Edmond Gin has been refined with Bourbon vanilla and therefore tastes somewhat less like juniper. The other botanicals consist of juniper berries, angelica, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon. A flamingo with a top hat on its head adorns the label, which is supposed to represent the free spirit, elegance and levity of its namesake.
