The Distillery: Wolfburn

Wolfburn
Wolfburn is the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland. It was originally built in 1821 but had to close again in the course of the 19th century and today only ruins of the old complex remain. In 2011, a new distillery was built not far from the ruins and in the meantime the production volume has returned to the same level as in the 19th century. The logo features a wolf, whose related mythical creature, the so-called 'sea wolf', is said to bring good luck to all those who set eyes on it. In the 16th century, when the drawing for the Wolfburn logo was made, there were plenty of wolves in the area. read more

Wir haben alle vier an einem Abend probiert. Man schmeckt, dass die Whiskys relativ jung sind.
Die Flaschen und das Logo sahen sehr schön aus, waren jedoch komplett irreführend. Mit Wolf und farbiger Keramikoptik hatten wir einen jungen, wilden Whisky mit ordentlich Charakter und klarer Kante erwartet.
Jedoch waren alle vier sehr weich und lieblich, fast schon süffig. Bei allen war Süße im Vordergrund.
Morven und Northland fanden wir nichtssagend und Süß. Northland hatte Eiche in der Nase, im Geschmack war diese jedoch nicht wiederzufinden.
Langskip schmeckte hauptsächlich nach Alkohol (bei 58vol% klar) und Süße.
Aurora war ebenfalls sehr süß, jedoch hatten sowohl Geruch und Geschmack sehr viel Frucht. Hauptsächlich Birne und Apfel, fast schon wie ein Obstler der Marke "Prinz".
