Product description
The Game of Thrones Single Malt Collection was bottled in honour of the eighth and final season of the series Game of Thrones (GoT). With different strengths of alcohol, each of the rare Scotch whiskies is dedicated to one of the houses of Westeros, the setting of the series and the Night's Watch that protects it. The history of the Six Kingdoms has been shaped in the highest degree by special people. The same is true of Mortlach, Dufftown's first legal distillery, where George and Alexander Cowie in particular had a significant influence on the evolution of whisky. Thus, the production of Mortlach 15 years is today as complex and unique as the figure of the three-eyed rab, who weaves together the stories of the Kingdoms in the series through his timeless wisdom.
This is the 9th bottling in the Game of Thrones Single Malt Collection. The 15-year-old Mortlach was first matured in sherry casks before receiving a six-month finish in ex-bourbon casks.

Aroma: Die Ex-Bourbonfässer als Abschluss der Reifung habe ich gleich anfangs vornehmlich in der Nase. Daraus resultieren die Vanille mit Honig, sowie Malz und diverse Gewürze (?). Früchte vernehme ich, wenn überhaupt, nur Äpfel (grüne) und etwas Zitrone. Vermisse die typische Mortlach-Note (leicht speckig etc.) (21)
Geschmack: Tatsächlich etwas mehr Fruchtigkeit und eine seltsame Schokoladensorte, wobei mich diese auch irgendwie an Ovomaltine erinnert. Eine subtile Pfeffernote gesellt sich dazu, aber insgesamt im Geschmack doch zu schwach ausgeprägt. Wieder etwas Apfel und eine dezente Eiche. Komplexität sieht anders aus. (19)
Abgang: Angenehmer süßlicher Ausklang, der jedoch eher mittellang ausfällt. Hat noch eine interessante, aber kurze Wendung in Richtung nussiges, geröstetes Brot. Neben der Süße könnte auch Lakritze eine Minirolle spielen. (21)
Kommentar: Mit einem authentischen Mortlach nicht verwechselbar (da so gut wie nicht vorhanden). Für mich ein eher „wässriger“, ja fast langweilig daherkommender Dufftown-Vertreter. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis hat Schieflage und ist dem GoT-Marketing geschuldet. Ich würde ihn nicht nochmal kaufen. Sicherlich OK zu trinken, aber keine Offenbarung. (18)
