Glenmorangie Spios is the 9th bottling from the Private Edition and is characterised by American rye whiskeys. Inspired by the Golden Whiskey Era, in which herbs and spices permeated the saloons, ex-rye casks from the heart of Kentucky were used for the first time to mature the malt. The name Spios means 'spice' in Gaelic and thus also verbally indicates the character of this bottling.

The stretch of land in the Northern Highland on which Glenmorangie stands has been the site for alcohol production (mostly illicit) since the Middle Ages, setting a formidable legacy. Glenmorangie was founded in 1843, although operation didn’t start until 1849.

In der Nase ist er doch sehr zurückhaltend, aber im Geschmack schlägt er dann doch zu, süß-würzig und der Rye Charakter ist und bleibt spürbar. In der Nase kommt nach etwas Zeit auch der weiße Pfeffer dazu, aber die Nase bleibt, nun ja, etwas dünn. Auch im Geschmack kann man einen Hauch Zitrusfrüchte erahnen, aber Vanille, Gewürze und Karamell plus Roggen bestimmen das Bild. Gute PE von Glenmorangie, aber vielleicht etwas zu teuer…

Voller Geschmack, der Rye ist deutlich und kombiniert sich mit dem weichen Glenmorangie. Eine tolle Kombination, preislich noch tolerierbar, sollte in keiner Glenmorangie Sammlung fehlen.
