Product description
Arran 'The Bothy' is reminiscent of the time of the whisky trade in the 18th and 19th centuries when smaller casks were used than are common today, as they were easier to handle for transport. This bottle has been part of the Arran distillery's core range since autumn 2019. The Single Malt is matured for seven years in former bourbon casks and then gets a finish in 125 litre oak casks for another two years. Maturing in the smaller casks increases the contact between whisky and oak, which makes the cask-strength The Bothy particularly aromatic and full-bodied.

The Distillery:

The Lochranza distillery is located on the Isle of Arran, after which it was initially named. In 2019, Lagg, the second distillery on the island, opened. As a result, Arran renamed itself Lochranza to better distinguish it. However, the Single Malt Whisky is still available under the Arran brand. read more

Kommentar: Ein sehr kräftiger Arran, der zeigt, was die Quarter Casks an Intensität herausholen können. In der Nase frische Früchte wie Apfel und Zitrus, dazu Vanille und ein Hauch Eiche. Am Gaumen süß malzig mit Honig und leichter Würze, der Alkohol bringt ordentlich Power und wirkt fast etwas dominant, mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser aber sehr angenehm. Insgesamt ein spannender Whisky mit Charakter und guter Preis-Leistung: mich knapp unter der Höchstwertung.
