Douglas Laing releases the Big Peat Rock Edition, a special edition of the popular Blend. This bottling was designed exclusively for and in creative collaboration with Whisky.de and matured in a sherry cask. The finish in a sherry cask is an absolute rarity for the Big Peats. The Rock Edition is part of the 'Big Peat's World Tour' in which the popular Islay fisherman travels to other countries to leave his Taste footprint. Eleven countries have already been part of this series. Now the Big Peat is rocking through Germany again on his tour.

Aroma: Reife Pflaumen und Kirschen. Phenolischer Torfrauch, aber eher dezent, mittel. Lagerfeuerrauch am Strand. Hefeteigsüße. Karamell und Fischernetz. Fischsoße.
Geschmack: Die Nase spiegelt sich am Gaumen wider. Dazu Maggi/ Umami. Der Torfrauch schiebt mehr nach vorne.
Abgang: Süß, Torfrauch, Hafenbrise. Mittellange.
Kommentar: Für 60 € im Angebot ein gutes PLV. Gut zu sippen und süffig.

Geschmack: Wie schon bei anderen „Regional Malts“ aus dem Hause Laing stören mich jugendliche Facetten und somit etwas Ungestümes. Immerhin sind die fruchtigen Anteile hier mehr bemerkbar–es bleibt bei Trockenfrüchten, hier allerdings mit einem Schuss Maggiwürze. Ein inzwischen süßlich werdender Rauch bleibt am Gaumen präsent. Phenole und feuchte Erde (ohne stinkig zu sein) leiten in den Abgang über. (21)
Abgang: Phenolisch und maritim endet auch der Dram. Die Süße der Trockenfrüchte nimmt ab und hinterlässt ein leider etwas zu kurz geratenes Ausklingen. (20)
Kommentar: Die von Horst und Benedikt Lüning (whisky.de) für diese Edition speziell ausgewählten Fässer sind überzeugend und geben dem ansonsten eher in Bourbonfässern gelagerten Big Peat das gewisse „Etwas“. Gefällt mir gut, auch wenn ich im Abgang gerne etwas mehr gehabt hätte. (21)
