The Benriach First Fill Palo Cortado Sherry Hogshead is also part of the Best Dram series from Michel Reick, Kirsch Import's Whisky Ambassador. As an independent bottler, he selects his best drams personally and locally in Scotland's whisky regions and bottles them as single casks at natural cask strength, neither chill-filtered nor coloured. This Glentauchers single malt whisky was distilled at the Speyside distillery in 2009 and finished in a first fill ruby port cask before being bottled in 2023. A barrique holds 225 litres. This type of barrel was originally used as a transport barrel for wine exports. Michel Reick is also known for his other series Scotch Universe, The Whisky Druid, The Old Friend series and is a true great in the whisky industry.

The Glentauchers Distillery is situated in the Speyside, just a few miles from Keith at the road to Craigellachie. There’s no visitor center at Glentauchers and this may be one reason why the distillery is not very well known. But the more important reason is probably that there are very few bottlings of Glentauchers Single Malt Whisky: almost the whole production is used for Blended Whisky. read more

Kommentar:
Geruch ist interessant und sehr fruchtig mit leicht scharfe Alkoholnote. Der Geschmack ist nicht so komplex wie der Geruch es erwünscht. Etwas würzig und nach überreife Pflaume/Rosine/Früchte.
Langalhaltener trockener bitterfruchtiger Abgang mit Alkoholnote.
Update: von 2,5auf 3 Sterne. Nach einigen Monate atmen ist der Whisky deutlich komplexer, jedoch weiter sehr bitter trocken besonders im Abgang, aber der Alkohol nicht mehr so stark

Kein guter Glentauchers. Eigentlich mag ich die Brenne, diesen aber nicht.
