Product description
This rum is a tribute to the emblem of the island of Mauritius, the flightless bird, which was already extinct in the 18th century. The sugar cane is grown in a 37-hectare botanical garden before being processed into molasses and then fermented for 24-48 hours. The rum is stored in both American and French oak barrels, bourbon barrels and oak barrels previously covered with sugar syrup, which are then blended together in elaborate blending processes.

The Distillery:
Grays was founded in 1931 as the Mauritius O.K. Distillery Company in Port-Louis on the island state of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Since 2016, the Lazy Dodo Rum has been produced, another product in the Grays range, which also includes the well-known New Grove Rum.

Kommentar: Ein sehr leckerer und überraschend komplexer Rum: Der Geruch erinnert zunächst an herbe Kräuter, zu denen sich aber rasch eine tiefe süße Note gesellt. Im Hintergrund blitzt immer wieder Frucht durch, die mich vor allem an Ananas, Banane und Kokosnuss erinnert. Auf der Zunge kann er dann sein volles Fruchtaroma entfalten. Viele Eindrücke frischer und getrockneter tropischer Früchte treffen hier auf eine gut abgeschmeckte Würze und eine angenehme Honigsüße. Der Abgang erinnert mich vor allem an eine nicht ganz reife Melone, dazu Gewürze, die sich immer mehr zu einem leicht nussigen Aroma entfalten, das sich angenehm im Gaumen festsetzt.
