Maker's Mark Cask Strength is bottled directly from the cask, undiluted. The bourbon always has an alcohol strength of between 54 and 57 % vol. Despite the higher alcohol content, the whiskey still has the well-known smoothness.

Makers Mark is on the rise and needs to increase its production capacity. But they don't want to change anything to the production process. So they just multiply their existing production equipment. They already did this around the turn of the millennium with the second still and more fermenters. In 2015 they install a third similar still and even more fermenters of the same kind.

Kommentar: Sehr schöner Bourbon! Die Holznote ist sehr dezent. Es ist auch keine Bitternote zu finden. Es dominieren voll die Süße und Vanille. Für Liebhaber von eher süßem Bourbon, wie mich, absolut top! Leider nur nicht ganz günstig...

Aroma: Vielsagender Charakter mit Vanille, Karamell, Zucker, Sirup, Fruchtgummi und verkohlter Eichenwürze im Hintergrund.
Geschmack: Weich, ölig und sirupartig. Vanillekekse, flüssiges Karamell und Feigengeele.
Abgang: Mittel bis lang. Viel eichige Trockenheit mit milder Weizensüße (einfach ikonisch für Maker's Mark), dazu auch Zimt und Karamell-Pudding.
Kommentar: Die PURE Essenz von Maker's Mark. Wunderbar komplex und vielschichtig. Lässt sich sehr gut mit Wasser verdünnen, um noch mehr Aromen raus zu hohlen. Preis/Leistung überragend. Für alle Fans von Premium-Bourbon ein absolutes MUSS!

Kommentar: Der kommt recht streng in Nase und Gaumen, wobei das Aroma erst durch etwas H2O Entfaltung findet. Gegenüber anderen Barrel proof/strength Bourbon ist der Alkohol stark im Vordergrund. (Mit etwas Sprite oder Cola übrigens Klasse ; psssst nicht an die Puristen petzen). Dennoch, als Wheater (und ich mag Wheated Bourbon`s) empfinde ich ihn als sehr streng. Dennoch gebe ich ihm glatte 3 Sternchen, weil ich ihn ab und an gern im Glas habe. Klassisch: die üblichen Verdächtigen in Geschmack und Aroma - Vanille, Karamell, Süße.
