Product description
The distillate for the St. Kilian Peated Rich & Smoky is based on heavily peated barley malt from the Scottish Highlands, which has a phenol parts per million content of 54 ppm. The Single Malt is matured 70% in ex-bourbon casks and 30% in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. The combination of these casks makes the end result pleasantly smoky yet fruity and creamy with subtle oak spice.

Aroma: Aroma recht unauffällig und unspektakulär

Abgang: mittellang
Kommentar: Vom Geschmack her gut zu trinken und im Grunde ein solider Whisky. Für den Preis gibt es allerdings auch echt besseres. Da würde ich einen Talisker 10 oder Laphroaig 10 deutlich eher wählen.

Aroma: Birne und Rauch sind hier zwei Dinge, die sich echt gut miteinander vertragen; beides ist recht intensiv, und beides in etwa gleich kräftig; dann haben wir aber auch durchaus noch eine nette vanillige Süsse, aber ansonsten nicht allzu komplex, nichtsdestotrotz tolle Nase, genau das was man sich vom rauchigen St. Kilian-Standard erhofft hat.
Geschmack: Auf der Zunge im ersten Moment milder als erwartet, aber nur im ersten Moment, dann plötzlich öffnen sich die Birne und der Rauch beinahe gleichzeitig und das ganz gewaltig; und dann wird er überraschend ziemlich kräftig würzig.
Abgang: Die Eiche und der Rauch bleiben dann recht lange im Mund, wohingegen die Birne rascher ausklingt.
Kommentar: Toll! Das erfüllt alle Erwartungen an den langersehnten rauchigen Standard von St. Kilian.
